Surface protection

Longer service life of printed materials thanks to protective coating

Many printed products are exposed to stresses such as moisture, dirt, tensile forces or abrasion. Whether book covers, menus, stickers or advertising boards: our surface protection can help you to extend the service life of your printed product! What’s more, it looks good for longer and is usually visually enhanced, for example with matt or gloss effects.

Film lamination on paper and cardboard

Everyday objects made of paper and cardboard, such as books, catalogs or menu cards, are often picked up, pushed around, put into pockets with other things or even accidentally spilled on. Film lamination, often called “cellophane lamination” in Austria, helps to prevent premature wear and tear on paper and cardboard products. A wafer-thin plastic film is glued to the entire surface of the printed sheet. This provides protection, makes prints wipeable with a damp cloth and increases their tear resistance.

In the course of the increasing discussion on the subject of plastic, we are increasingly being asked about the environmental aspect of film lamination. Our opinion: film lamination is justified if it is indispensable for the technical solution or if it extends the service life of a product and therefore makes sense in terms of the overall ecological balance. Based on these considerations, film lamination is even partially approved by the Austrian Ecolabel. However, please do not use film lamination for disposable products such as flyers.

Protective laminates on adhesive film and plastic

But stickers and boards are also often subjected to heavy use. Whether it’s rotating brushes in car washes, construction workers arriving with wooden batons, spraying off dirt with a high-pressure cleaner or simply wiping over it with a kitchen sponge: here too, a protective coating extends the service life of the product and keeps it legible and attractive for longer.

To achieve this, transparent laminates are bonded to the printed material over a large area. This is also referred to as lamination.
